Blade & Soul at gamescom Recap

Last week members of the NCSOFT Blade & Soul and WildStar teams went to gamescom in Cologne, Germany. Much of the show was spent behind closed doors showing press some of our upcoming announcements—including WildStar’s Free-to-Play Closed Beta that just started. But we also found time to meet fans and give out some awesome t-shirts!

Thursday night we had a small fan event at the Rheinloft which is (obviously) close to the Rhine river. About 150 fans, streamers, YouTubers, cosplayers and folks from BladeandSoulDojo.com and bladeandsoul-germany.de joined us (Nico Coutant, Julianne Harty, Akli Amichi, Jan Sterl, and me) for an evening of chatting, swag, food, drink, and most importantly, the chance to play the Western version of Blade & Soul for the very first time!

Blade & Soul at gamescom Recap

People who have been following us on Twitter have probably noticed that the account has been taken over by the Crimson Legion—one of the two main open-world PvP factions—and I’m sure the Cerulean Order will get their chance as well. But for now, it’s fun to hear their pitch for joining their chaos-driven organization. To help celebrate this rising battle of the two factions, we made t-shirts, and people who came to our event at the Rheinloft got to choose which faction they’d like to represent. If you weren’t there don’t worry, we should have a few more at PAX Prime later this month. And I think I saw that a few of the fansites in-attendance got some extra shirts, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few giveaways starting up on their sites in the next few weeks.

My favorite part of any event is the cosplayers, and a few for both Blade & Soul and WildStar showed up at the event to amaze us. There was a great Forcemaster on hand, as well as an awesome version of what we’re calling.

If you saw our Costume Contest winners livestream, right around 26:15 one of the honorable mentions received a tremendous amount of enthusiasm. As the audience was chanting that it should have won, I tweeted that if anyone cosplayed at gamescom that I’d talk to the development team about putting it into the game

Player homes should have access to the necessities of Blade & Soul

They're traditional even. Some may argue that they don't fall in line with the martial art style of Blade & Soul but then again neither would axe wielding destroyers or summoners or fireball slinging Focus Masters
